Real Madrid's match against Atleti Bilbao puts an end to a miserable season, the second in a row without a trophy, and coach Alvaro Arbeloa is leaving the "royal club" bench in the last 90 minutes of the season.
He is expected to be succeeded by Jose Mourinho, possibly promoted as early as Monday.
"I have taken a big step and improved a lot over the past four months. I feel ready for new challenges, and from Monday I will think about the next step," said Arbeloa.
The former Real Madrid defender took over the first team in January, when he succeeded Xabi Alonso.
They were immediately eliminated from the Copa del Rey, Bayern were better in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, while Real are behind Barcelona in the championship.
