Andoni Iraola is the new Liverpool manager

Liverpool Football Club today appointed Andoni Iraola as their new manager, signing a two-year contract.

Liverpool fired Arne Slott last Saturday due to poor results in the just-concluded season in which the team failed to defend its Premier League title.

Iraola left Bournemouth at the end of the season after much success. During the second half of the just-concluded Premier League season, the team went 18 games without defeat and finished sixth in the table, which earned them a place in the Europa League.

Bournemouth finished the season three points behind Liverpool.

"I'm really excited, I'm really excited. You know about Liverpool, you know it's a big club, a huge club, one of the biggest in the world. I always thought it was a special club. You don't need a lot of things to be attracted to Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool," Iraola told the club's website.

The 43-year-old Spanish coach will play in the Champions League with Liverpool next season.

"The atmosphere, the fans, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top players, the chance to compete for trophies. I don't think it can be more attractive than that. It's hard to find that. I'm really excited to get started," Iraola stated.
