Eriksen spoke out: "ICD protected me when it was needed, I'm focused on recovery"

A real drama occurred yesterday during a friendly match between the Danish and Ukrainian national football teams. Midway through the second half, Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the field.

He was immediately given help, and the situation reminded everyone of the one from five years ago when the Danish midfielder suffered a heart attack on the field during the European Championship.

It was then that the Wolfsburg player was fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) that saved him yesterday. As Eriksen explained, the device delivered an electric shock and did exactly what it was designed to do - protect him when he needed it most.

The Danish footballer made a statement on social media.

"I want to tell everyone that I am fine and at home with my family.

As you can probably imagine, having my ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) deliver an electric shock had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to assure everyone that this was a different situation than what happened in 2021.

I feel good and my recovery has already begun.

In addition to being grateful for the support and assistance of all the players and the medical team on the field, I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have taken care of me and my heart over the years.

Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it.

"For now, my focus is on recovery, spending time with my family, going on holiday and playing football with my children," Eriksen wrote.
