In the midst of the World Cup opening ceremony, just over half an hour before the start of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, the biggest club on the planet made an effort to be the center of attention.
Real Madrid announced the big return of José Mourinho just before 8:30 PM.
According to the Royal Club website, the Portuguese has signed until June 2029.
Mourinho returned to Madrid after 13 years, and in his first term - from 2010 to 2013 - he won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
The Champions League trophy remained an unfulfilled dream; in three seasons with Mourinho, Real Madrid played in the same number of semi-finals.
Mourinho had had an agreement with the "Blancos" for several weeks, but the club's presidential elections were pending - the moment Florentino Perez received a new mandate, the only obstacle was removed.
Real are now expected to promote at least two reinforcements.
It is already known that right-back Denzel Dumfries from Inter and defender Ibrahima Konate, whose contract with Liverpool has expired, are arriving.
