The vice-champion and winner of the Montenegrin Cup in football, Mornar, began preparations for the new season last night.
Almost all the players were present at the roll call by head coach Vesko Stešević. The only ones who did not attend the first training session were Marko Vučić and Balša Sekulić.
Sekulić is close to an international assignment and was therefore not at Topolica yesterday. As a reminder, the sturdy striker was the top scorer of the Meridianbet First League of Montenegro with 15 goals last season, and the Professional Footballers' Union of our country declared him the best player of the previous season.
His excellent performances were rewarded by Mirko Vučinić, who called him up to the national team, and Sekulić returned the favor in the victory over Bulgaria (1:0).
Today, the Barani will find out their first opponent in the Conference League qualifiers that await them this summer.
At the beginning of his address, coach Stešević expressed his satisfaction with the fact that a large part of the team remained in Bar.
"I'm glad to see you in this muchm number. I told you before the Cup final that I expressed to the president and management the desire to try to save each of you. Of course, Balša Sekulić is not with us - that's football and we all sincerely wish him the best possible engagement".
Once again, the experienced strategist looked back on the previous season, and emphasized that the goals, demands, and expectations will be different in the upcoming season.
"Once again, I must congratulate you on the result you achieved last year. It was an exceptional privilege to work with you. Same club, almost the same players, but the goals, demands and expectations are different, so the results may be different."
A complete preparation program will be defined based on the rivals in the Conference League qualifiers.
"Tomorrow we will find out the first rival for the Conference League, and based on that we will define the preparation program - where we are going, how long we will stay and whether we will play the first game in Bar. As for the workload, I did not plan more than two preparation games. The goal is to enter Europe with our form back, but without fatigue," said Vesko Stešević.
In addition to the coach, the Mornar players were also addressed by the club's president, Milovan Perović.
"I'm glad to see the same faces and that we agreed to continue our cooperation. You heard the boss - we have a long and hard summer ahead of us, an even harder winter, many games. But, as before, we are going to achieve as many victories as possible. The goals are big, we believe in you, may injuries bypass you! Happy start to preparations."
This will be Baran's second appearance in Europe.
Two years ago, also in the Conference League qualifiers, they reached the third round. They were eliminated by Dinamo Tbilisi and Radnički Kragujevac, and were stopped by Hungarian side Paks.
