Former Croatian football player Dario Šimić was arrested in a joint operation by the local police and the Administration for the Suppression of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK).
Šimić was arrested together with Neda Livljanić, former director of the Tourism Department at the Service for Economy and Property and Legal Affairs of the State Administration Office of the Šibenik-Knin County.
It is suspected that Šimić illegally obtained the necessary permits for the camp in Tisno through Livljanić. "Jutarnji list" adds that Livljanić has already been detained on similar charges.
Šimić is a former Croatian national team player, for whom he made 100 appearances between 1996 and 2008. He was part of the "fiery" team that finished third in the world at the 1998 World Cup.
During his career, he played for Dinamo, Inter, Milan and Monaco. He lifted the Champions League trophy twice with the Rossoneri.
In March last year, his brother Josip Šimić was also arrested.
It was a major USKOK operation due to suspicions of fictitious trade, tax evasion and other corrupt criminal acts committed within an organized criminal group.
Josip Šimić then confessed to the crimes he was charged with and was released to defend himself from prison.
