Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski was officially introduced as a new Chicago Fire player, and on that occasion he emphasized that he did not want to play for any other European club except Barcelona.
After saying goodbye to the fans of the Catalan giants at the end of the 2025/26 season, the 37-year-old striker began a new stage of his career in the American MLS league.
"I didn't want to play for any other club in Europe except Barcelona. I couldn't imagine a different scenario. It was a difficult decision for me and my family, but I'm very happy to have joined this team. I want to win trophies in this new phase of my career and life," Lewandowski said at the presentation, as reported by Marca.
The Polish international emphasized that he is aware that a big change awaits him after four years spent in Barcelona, but believes that he will quickly adapt to life in the United States.
"After living in Barcelona it won't be easy, but I'm from Poland and I'll adapt."
The experienced striker added that he sees great potential in Chicago and believes that the team can compete for trophies.
"I'm very happy to be here. I see the potential to win trophies. This is a new chapter in my life and I hope to enjoy it. Together with the coaching staff and my teammates, we can achieve great things this season."
Lewandowski trained individually during the summer break to prepare for the new season, and it is expected that he could make his first appearance for the Chicago Fire this week against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
At the presentation, he also joked about the name of the sport in the USA.
"We were talking about how the team plays 'soccer'... which, by the way, is football, not 'soccer'," Lewandowski said with a smile.
