After a painful elimination by Athletic Escaldes in the first round of the Conference League qualifiers, cuts were expected at Mornar Football Club.
Two days after the Andorran club eliminated the Montenegrin vice-champions from Europe, the port city club was left without a sports director. Mitar Novaković decided to take responsibility and leave the position after eight years.
"Dear football fans, dear fellow citizens and Mornar fans, I would like to inform the public, the board of directors, club president Milovan Mića Perović, the coaching staff, and the players that I have made the decision to step down from the position of sports director," Novaković began in a message he posted on social media.
He made this decision in order to ensure that the club continues to grow in every sense.
"I did not make the decision overnight or in an emotional way, guided solely by the interests of the club and the desire for Mornar to continue growing. I believe that at this moment the sports sector needs new energy and a new vision in order to continue the continuity of great results."
He recalled the difficult situation he found himself in when he took over as sports director in August 2018. During his tenure, Barani won a historic title in the Montenegrin Cup and were twice vice-champions of our country.
"In August 2018, when I took over the position, the club was in a difficult situation, without a stadium, administration and infrastructure. Together, step by step, we managed to stabilize Mornar, return it to the elite ranks, achieve historic successes, win the Montenegrin Cup and proudly represent Bar and our country on the European stage."
Finally, he took the opportunity to thank everyone he had collaborated with.
"I am immensely proud of everything we have achieved in the past eight years. I would like to thank Mić Perović for his unconditional support and excellent cooperation, the municipality of Bar, the head of the coaching staff Veselin Stešević and his associates, the working community and of course - the players who always left their hearts on the field. Special thanks to our loyal fans who breathed with the club at every moment. As a native of Baranin and someone whose story began in Topolica, Mornar remains my club, and I am its most loyal fan. I wish the new sports director and the club much luck and success in the upcoming season in the Meridianbet 1. CFL. With respect, Mitar Novaković," concluded the now former sports director of Mornar in his message on Instagram.
