Mornar has something to regret, Kaluđerović is honest: We obviously weren't good enough

Anyone who watched both matches between Mornar and Athletic Escaldes in the first round of the Conference League qualifiers would have a hard time understanding how Andorra's representative is a team that continues its European path.

In both games, everything went in Barana's favor for a long time, and the result was in their favor, but at the end of the duel in Andorra, at the stadium under Gorica, they were desperate for the team. Stešević's bag.

- A painful, disappointing elimination - the captain of Mornar tells "Vijesti" Andrija Kaluđerović.

- Like in Andorra, we had everything in our hands. We created enough chances, we should have taken a 2-0 lead, but then what happened happened - says the experienced Cetinje native.

Mornar lost from two penalties under Gorica, although the first one, for a 1:1 draw, is highly questionable.

- We kept the pace high until the middle of the second half, looking for a second goal to make things easier for ourselves. We knew it was the beginning of the season, that we weren't at our best and that it would get harder as time went on. If we had taken the lead on time, everything would probably have been different. We had to take advantage of the opportunities, there were many of them - says Kaluđerović.

Mornar, above all, could not afford to lose the first game.

- That's the point. We had a goal for 0:2, and immediately after that we conceded a goal, and later another one. After a game like that and a result like that, the pressure is greater. And the second leg is a special story - says midfielder Barana.

The sailor was unlucky, but it was no coincidence that this happened to him twice in seven days.

- We need to look in the mirror. As soon as we allowed this in two games in a row, we weren't good enough. In Europe, every mistake is punished, now we've felt it firsthand, although overall I think we showed that we're a better team than Atlético Escaldes. We had ambitions, we had a good draw, that's why it hurts especially that this happened to us. We have to move on, reset ourselves and focus on what's next - Kaluđerović is clear.

The start of the Montenegrin championship is getting closer, Mornar will be visiting Jezero on the second day of August in the first round. And they will try to repeat the fantastic last season in which they won a historic trophy (in the Cup), and were close to winning the title, which went to Sutjeska in an exciting finish.

- We have to be better in every field. A new season is starting, we will try to repeat the last one, but it will not be easy. We are now among the favorites, all our rivals will perceive us that way. But we have a quality team and we have to prove ourselves.

The club lost its top scorer during the summer. Balša Sekulić who was reinforced by Persib from Indonesia.

- It's not easy to replace a player like that, but I think we have enough quality forwards who can have a very good season - concluded Kaluđerović.
