Sadness on the Island: Legendary Kevin Keegan Passes Away

Legendary English footballer Keane Keane has died at the age of 76, local media reported, and his family and former clubs confirmed.

Keegan is an icon of Liverpool, with whom he was champion of England three times and Europe once, and in the late 1970s he won two Ballons d'Or.

He was the best footballer on the Old Continent in 1978 and 1979, while wearing the jersey of the German Hamburger, and later he was at Southampton and Newcastle.

Kigen was diagnosed with cancer in January.

"It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Keegan. The former England player and manager had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments," his family said.

"Kevin, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, was a loving husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank Kevin's incredible medical team for their support. This is an extremely difficult time and we ask for space and privacy," the family said in a statement.

Keegan has managed Newcastle, Fulham, the England national team, Manchester City and Newcastle again, most recently in 2008.
