Experienced Italian footballer Ciro Immobile has announced his retirement from professional football. As the former Lazio and Italy striker said, "it is time to dedicate myself to my family."
"I know this is a difficult moment for me, because I am ending a big part of my life. I love this job with all my heart, but I have to be honest with myself and say what the situation is now. For me, now is the time to be more with my family. They have been with me everywhere. I needed them for 17 years, and now they need me," said Immobile in farewell to his teammates from Paris, where he has played since February 2026.
Immobile was a member of the Italian national football team that won the European Championship at Euro 2020. He played eight matches and scored two goals in the continental championship. In total, he made 57 appearances for the Azzurri, scoring 17 goals.
He is one of Lazio's greatest legends. He played a total of 340 games for the "sky blues", scoring 207 goals and providing 55 assists.
He started his career at Sorrento and moved to Juventus in 2009. However, the "old lady" sent him on loan to Siena, Grosseto and Pescara. He then signed for Genoa, from where he came to Turin.
He first left Italy in 2014 when he signed for Borussia Dortmund. He then played for Sevilla, then again for Torino on loan from the Spanish club. He arrived at Lazio in 2016 and stayed for eight years.
He left Rome in 2024 and moved to Besiktas, and also played for Bologna and Paris.
