French footballer Kylian Mbappe said in an interview with "L'Equipe" that no player was better than him last season.
The Real Madrid footballer spoke about the Ballon d'Or, his ambition to win that award, and he openly said:
"I have arguments to win the Ballon d'Or, like being the top scorer in the history of the World Cup. I have a feeling that I can win it this year. They say I haven't won any team trophies, but this is an individual award. I've never seen someone unanimously chosen for the Ballon d'Or, but I have my arguments. I'm the top scorer in the history of the World Cup and when I think that at 27 years old I'm the player who scored the most goals in the biggest tournament in this sport, even surpassing a legend like Messi, I think that means something. The Ballon d'Or is never won by ordinary players, only by exceptional ones, like Messi or Cristiano. And I think I've done some different things this year," said Mbappe.
He points out that no one had a better last season than him.
"I can understand people who think differently. There is no dictatorship of opinion. But when you analyze the competition, nobody had a better season than me last season. People used to vote for the best player of the best team, not necessarily the best player in the world."
When asked who he would vote for, Mbappe replied:
"For myself".
In the interview, Mbappe also spoke about Lionel Messi, who recently announced that he had ended his international career.
"I would play until I'm 100, but you have to be smart and know when you can't anymore. He hasn't had to think about it yet because he can still play. Besides, Messi is Messi. I consider myself a different type of player, but he's different even among exceptional players," Mbappe said.
