Coach Dragan Adžić said that he respects the rivals at the qualification tournament in Denmark, but also believes that Montenegrin handball players can achieve at least two victories and secure a place at the Olympic Games (OI).
The qualification tournament will be played from March 18 to 20 in Aarhus.
The opponent chosen by coach Dragan Adžić at the start of the tournament will be Uruguay (March 18), in the second round they will meet with Denmark (March 19), and in the third with Romania (March 20).
Adžić said that many top national teams with huge investments are not even close to qualifying for the Olympics, but will have to wait for Tokyo in 2020.
"The Montenegrin handball players have been burning on the court since 2012 and have reached this position. I believe in them, that they will not give up on themselves, as they have not done so far. I expect that in Denmark, on their court, we will beat the host, but and Romania, if necessary, in order to qualify for the OI. Their great sacrifice and the large number of joint competitions, I believe will give us the strength to be the best when the going gets tough," said Adžić.
He said that the group is difficult, but that he believes in two triumphs and a place at the Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"Those of us who have already been to the OI know that it is incomparable to anything else, but I think that other players also deserve to experience it and look forward to it," Adžić said.
Goalkeeper Sonja Barjaktarović said that the main goal of the national team is to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
"We know what our goal is in Denmark, with all the desire and will we have, we should meet at the Olympic Games. Difficult games await us, but with our energy and will we can achieve the goal. I hope that we will give our best against Denmark, because "Romania, like Croatia, is less convenient for us. I hope that when it matters most, we will be right," said Barjaktarović.
The Montenegrin national team will be deprived of the help of captain Marija Jovanović, Suzana Lazović and Biljana Pavićević in Denmark.
