Veselin Vujović, legendary handball player and coach, is always an interesting interlocutor for the media from the former Yugoslavia.
In a conversation for RTS, Vujović also spoke briefly about the current socio-political situation in Montenegro, related to disputes over church issues.
What could I tell you as a person who feels Yugoslav, a little Macedonian, a little Slovene, Montenegrin, Croat, Serb. I was born in Cetinje, I am married to a woman from Šabac. For years, there were two churches where two Christmas trees were lit during the Christmas holidays - Serbian and Montenegrin. I don't know the real history. Whether the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro stole that property or whether it was historical, I absolutely do not know. Because those who are supporters of the fact that the SPC stole that property, they are advocating for it. They say that these are Serbian shrines that have been there for hundreds of years, and they think so. I wouldn't go into that topic," said Vujović, but also emphasized:
"I am from Cetinje, a Montenegrin, and I am proud of that. But how can someone separate brothers? I will always stand for the position that I am from Cetinje and Montenegrin, but I also believe that we are the same people. Why is this so, why do these things happen in Montenegro, someone will surely pay for it or they will tarnish their name in a very ugly way".
He also revealed that he has an offer to continue his coaching career, after he suddenly left Zagreb's bench.
"I have an offer from Saudi Arabia to be a selector. Now, they say it's hard to work and live, it's specific laws. It would probably be some kind of combination, to do some actions that can be done in Slovenia, Serbia and in the house of football, for example, they come there for ten days, work, come back, I stay here. If I manage to solve it in such a way, then I will be the coach of Saudi Arabia, if not, I will wait for a need for an average coach somewhere, and someone will hire me".
