In the days of greatest happiness for Montenegrin handball, a very sad news arrived - Miodrag-Miško Popović passed away at the age of 81.
The man who was rightly called the father of Montenegrin handball gave birth to countless pearls in Cetinje, and among them one of the best players of all time, Veselin Vujović.
Popović recently celebrated his 80th birthday, but he was still working and creating talents.
As in the past in Lovćen and Cepelin, so now in Perper with his longtime associate Vasko Ćeranić, he shaped the youngest handball players from Cetinje, but also from other Montenegrin cities, and the most impressive thing was how their children played - fast, modern, without holding the ball.
He was not stubborn and insisted on the old style of handball, he kept up with trends and was a real example to all Montenegrin coaches.
With his departure, Cetinje and Montenegro lost a great man to whom they must repay. When a new hall is built in the capital, for which the conceptual solution and location have already been adopted, the only logical solution will be to call it "Miodrag-Miško Popović".
Because, just as Aleksandar Nikolić was the patriarch of Yugoslav basketball, which is why Belgrade's "Pionir" was named after him, so is Popović the patriarch of Montenegrin handball and he deserved to have his name forever written down...
In accordance with his wish, Popović was buried today in the closest circle of his family.
