After defeats against Esbjerg and Metz, and a draw with Rapid from Bucharest, Buducnost Bemax handball players finally celebrated on their home court.
The duel with Storhamar in "Bemax Arena", which could solve the issue of the winner of the 5th place in group B, was won by Armel Atingre, who saved Olivia Lefkvist's shot four seconds before the end.
"In the end, Atingre brought us the victory, we were lucky, although of course it has the quality for such editions. We are happy with the win, but we have to do better in the next match against the same rival next weekend. All this was expected, because we only had three training sessions together, while Storhamar was together during the entire European Championship", said Bojana Popović.
The head of the coaching staff blamed the team for stopping when it led 11:7 in the 1st half.
"We expected a tough match, congratulations to Storhamar for a great fight throughout the match. In the first half, we had a period when we weren't the best in attack, we lost a few balls and that gave Storhamar the opportunity to come back from minus four. In the 2nd half we knew there would be strong defense on both sides. "We had a chance to win the game without an uncertain ending, but we made mistakes again," Popović said.
The heroine of the victory was very happy.
"Even before the game, I said that it will be difficult, because we are playing against a team that has almost the same number of points as us. Storhamar has a young team and they run a lot, they never give up, so I'm happy for the win. Of course, we have to learn from the mistakes we made, because it will be difficult in Norway next weekend", emphasized Atingre.
