Until the first match at the world championships after 10 years of waiting, Montenegrin handball players have only a little more than 24 hours left.
The "Lions" did the obligatory photo shoot and media briefing this morning, and from 15 p.m. they will train for the first time in the "Tauron Arena", where they will meet Spain tomorrow at 20.30:XNUMX p.m.
Right at the start of the competition, from which they expect a lot, Zoran Roganović's team faces one of the most difficult challenges.
"We have matured. At the European Championship, we showed that we can play with everyone, now we are in our best years to do great things. We should continue where we left off and show that we are ready for even bigger goals", said Vuk Lazović.
Last January, Montenegro impressed at the European Championship in Hungary, defeating North Macedonia, Slovenia and Croatia, but later fell.
"Corona brought fatigue in the second part of the championship, because we went to the championship without proper preparation. It is also certain that we have the Balkan style of handball, as soon as we started to play against racing rivals, we fell a little. This time we prepared well, we are ready for all possible opponents", said the experienced defender.
How against the first rival?
"What to say about Spain? He is the winner of all possible medals, plays specific handball, where tactics are in the foreground, plus running at the maximum. We will prepare and analyze them well, let's go 'head on', that's all.
Do the Spanish also have weak points?
"They have. With their defense, they try to hide the "threes", who are a little slower on their feet, with the exits of the "twos" and "fives". I think we should prepare some surprise and attack them where they are weakest".
What can Montenegro do at this championship?
"I never like to make promises. For me, those victories last year at the European Championship were normal, that's what I said. We should look at ourselves, go step by step and go as far as possible".
Passing to the second stage should not be a problem, but later crossing is very difficult, because the rivals will be France, Slovenia and Poland.
"We secretly hope to win the first game, which opens the door for great things later. After the match with Spain, we play with Vuya's Iran, which will certainly be extremely motivated, and Chile also has the Spanish system. We must not underestimate anyone, we should play smart in every match, and after the group, which I hope we will pass with a lot of points, we will go to the Poles, the French and the Slovenians. It's going to be hellish, it's a very difficult match, but we showed that we can play with Slovenia and we also watched Poland, which is the host, but not invincible, so anything is possible," concluded Lazović.
