Finally - Buducnost Bemax handball players moved from scratch, defeated Savehof on their home court (31:30) and escaped from the back of Group A of the Champions League.
Bojana Popović's team did not shine, nor does it have the quality to routinely beat anyone in the elite competition, but it had a girlfriend who was the best for who knows how many times - Milena Raičević.
The captain finished the match with 16 assists, and if her teammates had been more concentrated and used zicers, that number could easily have been over 20...
Both teams struggled at the beginning of the game, as evidenced by the fact that the first goal was scored only in the seventh attack, when Ivona Pavićević shook the net from a counterattack.
Until that moment, Armel Atingre had two saves, Johanna Bundsen had one save, and by halftime they had a total of 20 saves (the French woman nine, the Swedish woman 11).
Apart from them, the 1st half was marked by Raičević, who masterfully directed the attacking play of the "blues" and was most deserving of the 8:3 lead in the 12th minute, because she already scored two goals and distributed five assists!
Buducnost had the maximum plus five several more times, thanks to the very good role of Neslihan Čališkan, who entered the field for the first time in this Champions League in the 7th minute, hit the first three shots, but was also solid in defense.
In this match, the Turkish woman showed much more than the most expensive reinforcements Kalidijat Nijakata and Noemi Hafra in the first two. They weren't even there today - the French woman was in the stands, the Hungarian woman remained pinned to the bench.
At the end of the first part, however, the home team's concentration faltered, which Savehof took advantage of to reduce the score to 17:16 four seconds before the break.
By then, Raičević already had 10 assists on her account, and she could have had 15, only her teammates were more concentrated and used zicers, but they were "caught" many times by the experienced Bundsen.
In the 36th minute, the guests reached the first tie after a great action and a shot from the wing by Olivia Melegord (19:19), but Budućnost repelled that attack by the opponents and reached 29:26 with less than eight minutes to go.
It seemed that everything was resolved, but Savehof came to 30:29 and with less than two and a half minutes left had a chance to equalize, but Atingre stopped Olivia Melegord's shot.
Buducnost then broke the post and with a goal by Anastasija Marsenić with 91 seconds left, on another pass by the captain, went to 31:29. Andreas Valin took a time-out, but Atingre defended the win by stopping Nina Kopang from cutting to the minimum...
