In addition to the final participant of the World Cup quarterfinals being determined tonight, the dilemma of which teams will play in the Olympic Games qualifiers will also be resolved.
In case of victory over Croatia, Hungary would send Montenegro to the top eight at the World Cup. This would give the Hungarians 9th or 10th place (depending on whether Brazil, which already has a visa for Paris, would be ahead of them), and it leads to the Olympic qualifications.
And not only that - it also brings participation in the easiest tournament, with one European selection, Japan and Cameroon.
If Croatia triumphs, Montenegro will need a triumph for the quarterfinals, i.e. point if the duel between the neighbors and Hungary ends in a draw.
But also to finish behind the Croatians, the chosen ones Bojana Popović they should not grieve, because they would have been 9th or 10th in the World Championship, which would have brought them participation in the easiest tournament.
If they make it to the quarter-finals, but do not even reach the semi-finals, they would have to fight for two places at the Olympic Games with two national teams from Europe, as well as Argentina or Paraguay.
The biggest winner of all these calculations is Spain, which, with yesterday's defeat by the Netherlands (29:21), ended its performance in Group 4 in 4th place. But, she will definitely qualify for the Olympic Games as the ninth-place finisher from the European Championship.
Namely, the two best selections from the EHF Euro, which do not win participation in the qualifying tournaments through the world championship, will fight in April to go to Paris.
Currently, they are Montenegro and the winner of the 8th place at the EP, Slovenia Dragan Adžić, but it is clear that the "lionesses" will acquire that right through the World Championship - either by entering the quarterfinals or as 9th or 10th in the championship.
They currently have the best goal difference from teams that can finish third - now they are at plus 27, Brazil finished at +22, Slovenia at -2, and in the matchup for the 3rd position in group 3, they enter with minus five, and Romania Poland with - 17.
And the Brazilian women already have a place in Paris as champions of the Pan American Games...
