KI Klaksvik was the most beautiful story of European football this summer, our goalkeeper Nina Abramović also told "Vijesti" about the sporting miracles that are being prepared in the Faroe Islands, and they arrived earlier than anyone could have dreamed.
The Faroese handball players created one of the biggest sensations in the history of European championships, as they stole a point from the mighty Norway in Berlin (26:26).
And not only did they succeed, but they did it in a spectacular way, because in the 59th minute they lost 26:23!
With 97 seconds to go, the 21-year-old leader of the national team, Elias Elefsen and Skipagetu, made a seven-pointer, and with 24 seconds to the final whistle, Rei Berg Hansen took advantage of Pauli Jakobsen's defense and reduced the score to 26:25.
The Norwegian coach took a time-out, but A Skipaget stole the ball from Harald Rejnkind, who caught him behind the back with both hands.
The referees showed him the exclusion and the seven-pointer, which A Skipageta used for an unreal celebration in the "Mercedes Benz Arena", where about 5.000 Faranese gathered. That's every tenth inhabitant of the tiny archipelago in the Atlantic!
With this victory, the Faroe Islands remained in the game for the main stage. If they convincingly defeat Poland, and Slovenia overcomes Norway, they will be among the 12 best teams in Europe.
And Skipagetu and Teis Horn Rasmussen were the most effective with five goals each, and 18-year-old Oli Mitun scored three.
The Norwegians were led by Aleksander Blonz with eight and Goran Johansen with six.
Remember the story with Nina Abramović about sports in the Faroe Islands, where she singled out A Skipagetu and Mitun.
In the first match of group D, Slovenia defeated Poland 32:25 and qualified for the main stage.
From group E, Sweden and the Netherlands are among the top 12, who defeated Georgia (16:42) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (26:36) with plus 20 points.
Two participants of the newly formed group 2 are also known from group F - Denmark won it with a triumph over Greece (40:28), and Portugal over the Czech Republic (30:27).
