Montenegro vs. Serbia, story number four. This time with the desire of the "lions" to say goodbye to Munich with a victory, but also much more importantly - to take the "pole position" before the qualifiers for the 2025 World Cup.
Our country's handball players will play their last match at the European Championship tomorrow (Tuesday at 18 p.m.) against their northern neighbors who are still in the running for a place in the knockout phase.
"Serbia has shown that it is a competitive team and it will be difficult to play against them... It is a selection with excellent pivots, wings, goalkeepers and it will be difficult for us to deal with the Spanish system they play," warned our right back Stefan Čavor.
However...
"We showed in these two matches that we can play against serious national teams. I know that we can do much better, and that everything will come step by step, because we are dealing with a young national team. We are on the right track," added the handball player from the German Wecler .

the official mutual match was played between Montenegro and Serbia - in the qualifiers for the EP 2016. Serbia won in Belgrade (25:21), while it was a draw in Bar (25:25). The "Lions" were better at the last meeting - at the EP in Graz 2020 with 22:21
After two rounds, Montenegro has no points even though it deserved more against Hungary and Iceland, had shots for a draw...
"Two difficult games are behind us, I think we played both quite well, so it's a great pity and a pity that we didn't go to the second stage, but what's the matter - we have the game with Serbia left, which is very important because of the playoffs for the World Cup. We want to end the championship with a victory," Čavor is clear.
What decided that the matches eventually slipped out of the hands of the "lions"?
"Both games were uncertain until the very end, but I think we can do a lot better with some other factors," Čavor believes.
The defender of Montenegro was specific...
"In the first match, we had a lot of technical mistakes, in the second a little less - thanks to Nebojša Simić, we were equal all the time, but I think that the defense somehow had to be better against Iceland, that some things were respected until the end.. But it's handball, it's a sport and there will always be mistakes, and we always try to correct those mistakes," Čavor concluded.
In the previous three official matches with Serbia, the "Lions" recorded each of the three possible results - they were defeated in Belgrade as part of the qualifiers for the European Championship 2016 (25:21), but in the same cycle, in the second leg, they played a draw in Bar (25:25). . They won in 2020 in Graz (22:21), which was also the first triumph of Montenegro in the history of European championships.
