The news that was awaited in Austria has arrived - the handball players of Egypt have won the ninth title of the champion of Africa, the third in a row, and thus "introduced" the team of Aleš Pajović to the Olympic Games qualification.
In the final in Cairo, the "Pharaohs" defeated Algeria 29:21 and came only one behind the record holder Tunisia, who won the title of champion of the Black Continent nine times.
With this triumph, the Egyptians secured a place at the Olympic Games and determined the squads of the qualifying tournaments, which will be held from April 14 to 17.
Given that the best African selection was seventh at the World Championship, Slovenia jumped into the Olympic qualifiers from that competition instead, and Austria took the European place from its southern neighbors.
If Algeria had celebrated, it would have gone directly to the Olympics, the Egyptians would have qualified, and the Austrians would have been left without them...
The Slovenians were also happy about Egypt's victory, because they will play in a group with Spain, Brazil and Bahrain, and if the "Pharaohs" had lost by two visas, they would have fought with Norway, Hungary and the third place from the African Championship, Tunisia.
Portugal entered that tournament, and Croatia was unlucky - instead of the Spaniards and two outsiders, they will fight for places in Paris with the loser of the duel for 3rd place at the European Championship, Sweden or Germany, as well as Algeria and Austria.
