The Croatian Handball Association "used up" another legend - after only one major competition and winning 11th place at the European Championship in Germany, Goran Perkovac was dismissed from the position of coach.
The captain of the national team that won the Olympic gold in Atlanta in 1996 (he also has a bronze medal in Seoul in 1988 with SFRY) was unanimously relieved of his duties.
Such an outcome was announced during the championship, even though the start was perfect, because Spain was defeated 39:29.
The Croats then drew with Austria (28:28) and defeated Romania (31:25) in the preliminary stage, and in the main stage they only defeated Germany (30:24), in a duel that did not decide anything.
It remains to be decided who will be the new "selector", and from April 14 to 17, a big test awaits him - the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games.
In Hanover, the "fiery" will fight for two places in Paris with Germany, Algeria and Austria.
The site "Index.hr" posted a survey on who should be the new coach, and as many as 42 percent of over 6.000 respondents voted for Veselin Vujović.
Nevertheless, the chances of the expert born in Cetinje, who has been living in Šabac for decades, practically exist, because both he and the all-powerful HRS vice-president Zoran Gobac recently said that Vujović will never be the coach of Croatia.
The "offer" also includes the names of local experts Nenad Kljajić, Slavko Goluža, Nenad Šoštarić and Ivica Obrvan, as well as former Barcelona coach Ćavi Pasquale.
