The deputy mayor of Podgorica Olivera Injac, Luka Rakčević, announced in a post on Instagram that the capital will do everything to maintain the women's handball club Budućnost and will try to solve part of the problem.
Bućnost has been without a general sponsor since the first of July, because the company "Bemax" left the club.
And in an interview with "Dan", the executive director of the club and legendary Montenegrin handball player, Maja Bulatović, said that the club is shutting down.
"We must not allow the closure of the Buducnost Women's Handball Club, because it is our moral and sporting obligation, so the capital city will do everything to maintain the team and try to solve at least part of the accumulated problems. I am pleased to announce that the owners of ŽRK want the club to return to its auspices of the city, which in the long run ensures the stability and functionality of the club," wrote Rakčević.
He added that "every generation of our city incorporated a part of itself into the mosaic of the long and proud history of the most trophy-winning club in our region."
"From the first European trophy and the great Vinko generation, led by the Mugoš sisters, Katica Lješković and Olga Sekulić, to the later generations of the legendary Nikola Petrović and Dragan Adžić, ŽRK Budućnost has become a symbol of our city and a name that commands respect in sports circles around the world," he says. in Rakčević's announcement.
The deputy mayor of Podgorica reminded that Buducnost has been the foundation of the Montenegrin national team for decades, "so we have a greater obligation to save the club and ensure its functioning."
"I'm sorry that the previous sponsor, in this way and overnight, decided to leave the club and leave enormous financial problems, which - even with the help of the city - make the elementary functioning and participation in the Champions League questionable. Although every sponsor has the right to give up its sponsorship, we could have discussed everything months ago and prepared a strategy so that the club would not be a collateral damage of such a transition We owe it to the club, the citizens and all the fans. In the coming days, we will initiate formal procedures and discussions with the club's owners, and the public will be informed about the situation, possibilities and plans for the future. Rakčević concluded.
