The Montenegrin women's handball team defeated Romania tonight (27:25) and recorded their second victory at the European Championship.
After tonight's triumph, the Lionesses came one step away from the main stage, and the situation regarding the passage will be clearer after the match between the Czech Republic and Serbia, which starts tonight at 20:30 p.m.
"The most important thing is that we won. If we were to compare the game with Serbia and the defense in today's match - it is far from the quality it should be. We expected Romania not to give up until the last minute, as they showed against the Czech Republic. I am happy that the girls remained stable until the end. As for the attack, I think that today was not a problem only when Romania came out in 5+1. Not because they surprised us, but it brought some unrest us. But, even after that, we managed to calm down, to see where the space was, to attack and to have movement without the ball," coach Suzana Lazović told RTCG after the match.
In the third round, Montenegro will play against the Czech Republic on Tuesday (20:30).
"The defense was a little lacking today, but I hope that we will not lack it in the next game. I am happy and proud that we took a big step towards the second phase. Against the Czech Republic, we need to give our maximum, so that what was lacking in this game, will be in the next as it should be," said the coach.
Tonight, Montenegro played without Milena Raičević, who was injured against Serbia.
"We missed Milena Raičević. But at the European and world championships, the bench is important, because the games are played day after day. Not even the most prepared player can play 60 minutes - it's up to us to make a good rotation at the right moment and for each girl to contribute the way it should be," concluded Suzana Lazović.
