Two out of two - Last night in the second round of the European Championship, Montenegro defeated Romania (27:25), achieved another victory and came close to qualifying for the next stage.
The "Lionesses" led from the beginning against Romania, were only once in the deficit, but on several occasions they allowed their rival to make a series and threaten.
Although it has achieved two victories, Montenegro has not secured the second stage yet, and tomorrow (20:30) it plays against the Czech Republic in the last round. A victory guarantees first place and two points in the next round, a defeat by three goals would also guarantee placement, with the fact that our selection would not transfer a single point, and a more convincing one would mean elimination.
"Difficult match. There were ups and downs, but when it was difficult, we showed that we are real. The goal was to pass the group, and we will go step by step," said Ivona Pavićević after the match.
Rotation is very important, all players got a chance.
"That's what makes me happy. It's important for us to have as much rotation as possible, for all the girls to use their minutes and do their best," said Pavićević.
Jelena Vukčević scored the first goals in her career at the European Championship.
"The defense was our trump card again. It led us to good things in attack again. I think this is just the beginning, that this team can do great things. There will always be ups and downs, but I think we are united and strong enough and mentally and physically so that we can control it," Vukčević said.
The beginning of the second period was marked by Matea Pletikosić, who scored goals and kept our national team at a large margin.
"We played well in defense. We also had some mistakes, where we allowed them to get back into the game. I think we deserved to win. Today maybe I pulled it off, Ethan in the first half, against Serbia it was Djina. There are a lot of us that I can pull, we also got Jelena Vukčević who was excellent," Pletikosić believes.
Next is the match with the Czech Republic, nothing is over yet.
"I don't think we should expect someone else to make a result for us, but to go step by step, to prepare for that game as well as for all others," Pletikosić concluded.
