Budapest, December 19, 2004 - Norway's handball players on the wings of Kristin Lunde defeated Denmark and became European champions for the second time in history.
Vienna, December 15, 2024 - Norway was once again better than Denmark (31:23), for the tenth European crown overall, and the ninth in the last two decades - now with the legendary 45-year-old Katrin Lunde in the team.
The EHF Euro is once again in the colors of the Scandinavian selection, Torir Hergeirsson's girls - who today said goodbye to the selection after 16 years - in the final in Vienna with a flying game in the second half and led by the unreal Hanni Rejstad, they "blown away" their neighbors from Scandinavia.
What Norway's dominance is about, and at the same time the feat, even the miracle, of Montenegro, is best told by the fact that the "lionesses" and France are the only two national teams that have been European champions in the last 20 years with machinery from the north.
In addition, our national team reached the crown in a direct duel with Norway - an unforgettable final in 2012 (34:31). On the other hand, the French women celebrated six years ago after Norway did not even reach the semi-finals.
Along with the aforementioned trio, only Denmark and Hungary have reached the European crown.
Today's best handball player Heni Rejstad scored eight goals in the Viennese final, Emily Hovden six, while Kamila Herem and Kari Bratsen hit the net four times each.
In the defeated team, Ane Mete Hansen and Mia Hejlund scored five goals each.
Hungary won the bronze medal earlier today with a triumph over France (25:24), so the podium in Vienna was identical to the one in Budapest 20 years ago.
