The Buducnost women's handball team couldn't perform a miracle in southern Germany, but what happened on the field of the European vice-champions wasn't even realistic...
The "Blue and White" suffered their eighth defeat in the 10th round of the Champions League - Ludwigsburg won at the "MHP Arena" (26:18).
"The German team played a great match and deservedly won. We had good energy in the first half, but there were problems in attack. The game went downhill in the second half, and the result in the end was not good, but all of this is a great new experience for our young team and the players who were given the opportunity," said Bojana Popović.
More worrying than the eventual defeat is the injury to young Nina Ramusović.
"I hope that all the players will remain healthy after this match, because it is extremely important for us. I am primarily thinking of Nina, who is very young and only 17 years old, I believe that she will be fine," emphasized the head of the Buducnost coaching staff.
With Vipers' withdrawal, a great opportunity arose for Buducnost to advance to the knockout phase - the "blue and white" should be ahead of only Rapid Bucharest by the end.
"We turn to the remaining matches in the group stage, we have three more duels until the clash against Rapid in Podgorica, which could be decisive in the fight for a place in the round of 16. Of course I am sad about the situation that happened to Vipers, because it is not good for handball," concluded Bojana.
Nina Bulatović scored two goals against Ludwigsburg from as many shots.
"This was a very demanding game, we knew it would be like that. In the first half, we mostly matched the hosts well, but we knew they had more rotation than us. That was evident in the second half and Ludwigsburg came away with two points," said the right winger of the "blue and whites".
