French handball player Jemima Cabey passed away suddenly today at the age of 22.
Her club, Plan-de-Kok, did not announce the cause of death.
Cabaye played as a goalkeeper and was a member of the French national team in the youth categories.
"She was a very talented goalkeeper and an exemplary teammate, but Jemima was above all a radiant, smiling young woman with extraordinary kindness. Her smile and her dedication will leave indelible memories in our hearts and in the history of the Plan-de-Kok Handball Club," the French club said in a statement.
Cabaye has played for Plan-de-Kok since 2022, and this season she was one of the best goalkeepers in the French league, with a total of 78 saves.
"The President of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Hasan Mustafa would like to express his condolences to the family, friends, teammates and all those touched by Dzemima's passing. The loss of such a bright and vibrant young life is a tragedy for which words cannot be found," the IHF said in a statement.
