The season, which has never been more complicated, ended in a sad and painful way - the Buducnost handball team said goodbye to the Champions League with a point against Rapid (21:21).
And this after they took a 21:18 lead with three minutes left.
"All this happens to more experienced teams than us, I have nothing to blame the girls for, they fought... There were things we could have done better, but all this is a great experience," said Bojana Popović, head of the "blue and white" coaching staff, at a press conference.
She continued in a similar tone when it came to the end of the match in "Morača".
"They simply lost focus, it was difficult, we were tired, but we should have been calmer. I'm very sad, but Rapid is a good team, and we missed a lot of shots from good positions. I'm satisfied because they fought until the end and this is certainly a great experience for them."
The season that started with the club's survival in doubt is now finally over. What's next, does Bojana have the motivation to continue?
"We'll see, something should start happening this week, a Board of Directors should be formed and we should know where we stand, what our team will be and how everything will go. The aggravating circumstance is that the girls still don't know where they will play next season," she explained.
He doesn't hide that not everything is simple...
"It's hard, really, but one has to look for a new motive, to believe that it will get better... But let's let some others who need to make the moves now. With this squad, this is the maximum, even if we had gone through, I think this would be a great miracle. Suffice it to say that we are only playing with four defenders," concluded Bojana.
And the "blues" guard Jelena Vukčević emphasized that all this is a way for this team to grow.
"Something we have to grow through, we didn't have the experience for this kind of finale, we should have been calmer," said the girl who scored seven times against Rapid.
