Two wins, a loss, and then a big point - Didije Dinar managed to "wake up" the lions after painful matches with Italy.
The Montenegrin handball players achieved a great draw in Tatabánya against Hungary (29:29) and now only a huge miracle can separate them from the European Championship in January 2026 in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
"It was a very important match for us, and the players fought until the end. I say it was important especially after Finland celebrated against Slovakia earlier today, so this point is particularly significant in that sense," said Dinar.
Hungary had a big 26:21 at the finish, and Montenegro came back after that, leading, perhaps even having a shot for the win...
"What I'm particularly pleased about is that we turned a game at minus five into a good one and that some of the substitutions bore fruit," added Dinar.
Is Montenegro starting to resemble the way Dinar imagines it to be?
"This is a very good team, we have a week behind us where we worked a lot on both the defensive and offensive segments. Before the first match we didn't have much time to prepare and analyze and I think that's why we played much better now," concluded the Montenegrin coach.
