Four seasons abroad, then a third return to her beloved club - Montenegrin national team player Itana Grbić is officially a handball player for Buducnost again.
The girl who plays as a center back donned the blue and white jersey after playing for three Champions League participants in previous years - Ferencvaros, Brest and Crimea.
It was known after the elimination from Rapid in the Champions League this season that Itana was on her way to Podgorica, and as announced by the club, she will be Buducnost's biggest reinforcement for the next season.
"The time spent at big European clubs was valuable for my development, but Buducnost has always had a special place in my heart. This is my city, my club, and I felt it was the right time to come back and help the team," Itana told the club's website and emphasized:
"I am returning more experienced and mature, with a clear desire for Buducnost to once again move towards the top of European handball."
Itana first wore the blue and white jersey from 2016 to 2019, and then in the 2020/21 season.
"It means a lot to me that I will be playing in front of the home crowd again. 'Morača' has a special energy and I hope that we will manage to bring the fans back to the stadium," Itana emphasized.
In recent years, fans seem to have forgotten about the club that brought two European crowns to Podgorica.
"I believe that together we can make 'Morača' an impregnable fortress again, as it once was and as it deserves to be."
What are the expectations for next season and the team that is being formed?
"To create a stable team that will be able to compete with the strongest. I believe that more Montenegrin national team players will come to Buducnost, because this is the path by which the club and the national team can grow together. With the right people, vision and support from the fans, we can be competitive in the Champions League."
Itana also had a message for fans.
"Thank you to everyone who has always supported me, no matter where I played. Now is the time to write new pages of the club's history together. The future is more than a club – it is a sense of belonging and pride. See you in Morača," concluded Itana Grbić.
