The final step towards the seventh consecutive, and eighth overall, participation in the European Championships is ahead of the Montenegrin men's handball team.
The "Lions" will play their final two matches in the EHF Euro 2026 qualifiers in May, and after a great draw against Hungary in Tatabánya in March, they are in a good position to achieve their goal and once again find themselves among the 24 best teams on the continent.
Ahead of their away match in Finland on May 8 and their duel against Slovakia in Bar three days later, the "Lions" are in second place in qualifying group 2 with five points, while Hungary is the leader with seven. Finland has four, and Slovakia is without points and no chance of qualifying for EHF Euro 2026.
The two first-place teams and the four best third-place teams from eight qualifying groups will qualify for the EHF Euro.
Coach Didier Dinar announced a list of 16 players, while five names are on the reserve list.
Compared to the March doubleheader against Hungary, Montenegro will be weakened by the absence of two goalkeepers, Nebojša Simić and Nikola Matović, who suffered serious injuries and are expected to be out for a longer period of time, and right-back Stefan Čavor will also be absent due to injury.
In the clashes against Finland and Slovakia, Montenegro enters stronger thanks to left wing Miloš Vujović, pivot Vuk Lazović and Miloš Božović, who were not available to the coaching staff in March due to injury.
The only debutant on the list is Romanian Vaslui goalkeeper Danilo Mihaljević, who, together with Haris Suljević, will form a tandem between the posts.
Goalkeeper Kura from Azerbaijan Mile Mijušković will act as a goalkeeper and player coach, and if necessary, will be available to the coaching staff.
There are five names on the reserve list, including left-back Vuko Borozan, who is still struggling with injuries. In agreement with the coaching staff, Borozan will, if necessary, make himself available to the coaching staff for important matches that await the "Lions".
