Lazović: We were lucky, although no team should be underestimated anymore

Montenegrin women's handball team did well in the draw for the World Championship - is the message from head coach Suzana Lazović.

The "Lionesses" will play in Group D with Spain, Faroe Islands and Paraguay.

"When you look at the lineups of all the groups, the impression is that we were lucky in the draw and that we avoided the strongest teams. Of course, no selection should be underestimated anymore, especially due to the fact that the quality of handball outside of Europe has risen to a higher level," said Lazović.

All rivals are well known.

"In the European Championship qualifiers that start in October, we will have the opportunity to test ourselves against the Faroe Islands. Spain is at the very top of world handball, and Paraguay is a team that is improving and showing quality year after year. Montenegro played against Paraguay two years ago at the World Championship, but the opponent has improved significantly during that period and will certainly be more prepared for our playing system now. Although it is an atypical opponent, we could have had a rival from Africa or Asia who would have caused us more problems than Paraguay," added Suzana.

The top three teams from the group will secure a place in the main round.

"The goal is, of course, to get the best out of our team in the group stage and to rank ourselves in the way we want before the championship continues," concluded Lazović.

The World Championship is scheduled from November 26th to December 14th in the Netherlands and Germany.
