OTP Group Budućnost handball team was defeated today away from Storhamar (25:14) in the second round of the Champions League.
Buducnost was defeated by its direct competitor for a place in the round of 11, and opened the game poorly in attack, scoring the first goal in the 6th minute when Tanja Ivanovic scored for 1:XNUMX.
"We started the game badly with two sending-offs in the first five minutes, which the home team took full advantage of. That initial shock left a lot of marks, although we tried to come back on several occasions. The defense worked and somehow we tried to regain stability through it and I had a feeling that we would be able to succeed in some of those things. However, everything we did offensively, such as inaccurate shooting and a lot of technical errors, led to a situation where we lost confidence and faith in what we were doing," said Popović after the match.
In the second half, Buducnost was down four at one point (14:10), so Storhamar responded with five consecutive goals (19:10).
"During the entire second half, the defense was at a good level, that is, until the 55th minute when we conceded 21 goals. However, the head did not hold up and the difference in the end was like this. I think a lot of the players were below the level for a good result in the Champions League. We need to see what the problem is, because so many missed shots and so many chances that we created through actions we did not valorize and it left a lot of marks on the girls. Then, it was simply difficult to get out of such situations," said Bojana Popović.
The attack was bad today.
"I can't say there was no giving, because through defense they really tried to find themselves and help the team, however, in attack everyone was at a poor level. I would single out Jelena Vukčević - she tried to create chances and get the team playing, but often she didn't realize some situations either. In general, the attack and missed shots led us into an even more difficult situation, losing strength and self-confidence, and then the defense couldn't quite get everything back," Popović concluded.
