Bojana Popović is no longer the coach of the OTP Group Budućnost handball team, the club announced today.
Cooperation with Bojana Popović was mutually terminated, and the new team coach is Zoran Abramović.
"The women's handball club OTP Group Budućnost informs the public that Bojana Popović is no longer the coach of our club as of today. At the same time, the club is pleased to announce that an experienced expert, Zoran Abramović from Cetinje, has been appointed as the new coach, who will make his debut on the bench on Saturday, when OTP Group Budućnost welcomes the European champion - Győr in the 3rd round of the EHF Champions League. After discussions in the previous days, the club and Popović have reached an agreement on the amicable termination of cooperation. This ends her mandate on the bench of the two-time European champion, which she began in November 2020, when she was appointed head coach after previously being Dragan Adžić's first assistant in the coaching staff," Buducnost announced.
The Podgorica club announced that in mutual discussions, a common position was reached that a mutual termination of cooperation is the best solution at this moment, in the hope that OTP Group Budućnost will achieve the goal set at the beginning of the season in the remainder of the season.
"As a player, first assistant in the coaching staff, sports director and since November 2020, the first coach of the team, Popović has made an immeasurable contribution to the work and results of our club. With her professional approach and exceptional knowledge, she helped Buducnost, despite the numerous challenges it faced in previous seasons, maintain its place in the EHF Champions League and be competitive in the elite ranks of European handball, and she made a key contribution to the formation of numerous players who became the backbone of the Montenegrin national team. For all of the above, as well as the fact that as the coach of the Montenegrin national team, she won the bronze medal at EHF Euro 2022, ŽRK OTP Group Buducnost expresses great gratitude to Bojana Popović and wishes her much success in the continuation of her coaching career.
Her successor on the bench of the two-time European champion – Zoran Abramović, has more than 30 years of experience in professional handball, as a player and coach.
"He holds the highest diploma - Master Coach of the EHF. He began his coaching career in 2004 and has coached all categories, from youth to senior teams, and was a selector in all ages of younger categories. He left a deep mark on the Lovćen Handball Club, with which he won the Montenegrin Championship three times and four trophies intended for the Cup winner. He led the most trophy-winning Montenegrin men's club for two seasons in the SEHA league. He was also the first assistant to the men's national team coach at the 2008 European Championship, when they qualified for the main round. From 2018 to 2020, he was the coach of the Montenegrin men's national team in the under-16 age group. He is also the founder of RK Perper Handball, in which he was a coach and sports director. Since November 2019, he has been engaged in RK Vojvodina, in which he was the coach of the under-16 generation of players, with whom he won the Serbian championship title four times. He was also the coach of the Kuwaiti national team in the player's age is up to 21 years old," Budućnosti said.
