The OTP GRoup Buducnost handball team will play Esbjerg on Sunday at 14 pm in the seventh round of the Champions League and are chasing their first points in the European elite this season.
The "Blues" came close in the previous round when they were defeated by the Romanian Gloria in the final, and now it doesn't seem realistic that they will achieve the feat in Denmark.
However, coach Zoran Abramović is optimistic and notes that his players look much better now than at the beginning of the season.
"We definitely have more confidence than at the beginning of the season. The girls are aware that we are improving our form, it was evident against Borussia Dortmund and Gloria. We played as modern handball demands and we regret not beating the Romanians. We continued to train this week on the wings of that match," said Abramović.
Esbjerg has a half-point record after six games, and its main force is superstars Heni Rejstad and Nora Merk.
"They are the best in the world. Esbjerg is in form, on the same level as Đero, whom they lost to undeservedly. They are certainly one of the favorites to reach the final four," Abramović pointed out.
The Future camp is not promising victory, but a big fight is inevitable.
"We will try to counter according to our capabilities. I expect that we will have periods of good play in both directions. We will try to play transition and we will do our best - it remains to be seen how long that will be enough," said Abramović.
