The OTP Group Budućnost handball team won a big point in the Champions League today - with a goal by Itana Grbić, the "blues" managed to draw in the "Mtel Morača Hall" against Esbjerg (34:34).
Buducnost won its first point of the season in the Champions League today. And it was completely deserved.
At the start, Esbjerg led 3:0 and 5:1, so Buducnost coach Zoran Abramović had to take a timeout. After that, Buducnost came close to 6:5 with two more players, but Esbjerg went up four in the 13th minute - 10:6.
After that, the Danish team had a four-goal lead twice more (12:8 and 13:9), Buducnost came within 14:12 with a goal by Jelena Vukcevic, but Esbjerg responded and had a five-goal lead for the first time - 17:12.
Buducnost was down four at halftime (20:16), and in the 35th minute after goals by Ivana Godeč and Jelena Radivojević, they came close to 20:18. At those moments, Esbjerg maintained a two-goal lead, repelled Buducnost's onslaught, and at the end of the match had a four-goal advantage - 31:27.
Ivana Godeč was excellent in attack then, reducing the lead first to 32:30, and then to 33:31.
Then, Buducnost played with two players less, and Armel Atingre left her team in the game, so that Godeč and Vukčević scored to tie the game (33:33), but Nora Merk quickly returned the lead to Esbjerg - 34:33.
But, 25 seconds before the end, Merk lost the ball, and Itana Grbić scored in the last attack and brought Buducnost its first point this season in the Champions League.
For Buducnost, Vukčević was the most efficient with 10 goals. Godeč had nine, while Atingre finished the match with 13 saves.
In the Esbjerg team, the most efficient was Rijstad with nine goals.
The Champions League competition resumes in January next year.
