Serbia was scoreless for a full 11 minutes of the second half, but despite that, they managed to defeat Spain and, just like the Faroe Islands, show that the "warriors" are not as good as they seemed in the duel with Montenegro.
The Serbian women's handball team came from a minus six (26:20) deficit in the 46th minute to win a big victory over Spain (31:29) at the start of the main round of the World Championship. Most importantly, they helped the "lionesses" to some extent, who could reach the quarterfinals with two wins from three matches.
The first triumph for our national team should come at 18 pm against the weakest team in the group, Iceland, and the second may be against Serbia on Saturday - before that, the "lionesses" also have a duel with Germany in Dortmund.
In any case, Suzana Lazović's team now has a much easier path to the knockout stage, but they also know that they have to do much better in the rest of the championship than they did in the duel with Spain. Germany has shown the most so far, and Serbia is a different team this time compared to the one that Montenegro defeated at the EHF Euro last year.
Serbia played a good first half, even though they went into the break with a two-goal deficit (19:17), and then completely slowed down after returning from the locker room - for the next 11 minutes, Jose Ignacio Prades Pons' (the Spaniard on Serbia's bench) team did not score, so the rival went 26:20.
And then the series of former Buducnost pivot Dragana Cvijić and her friend started, and the three Jovanas - Jovović and Skorbić (also a former Buducnost player) shone with goals, and Risović with miraculous saves.
Serbia quickly reached 28:27, and then knew how to preserve the huge victory that fully returns this team to the fight for the quarterfinals.
Jovović was the most efficient with seven goals, Skrobić (formerly Kovačević) and Katarina Krpež-Sležak each scored five times, while Dragana Cvijić scored each of her four shots.
On the other side, the best was Danila so Delgado with 11 goals.
