After an unexpectedly poor performance and defeat to Spain, everything changed on the first day in Dortmund.
The Montenegrin handball team first heard the good news that the team from the Pyrenees was defeated by Serbia, and then they played as they know how and without any problems confirmed that they are a class above Iceland (36:27).
"We had a meeting after the defeat to Spain, we agreed on how to enter the match - with our energy that adorns us, to bite and to celebrate every goal and save in order to annoy the opponent. We showed everything and we deserved to celebrate," said Dijana Trivić, who finished the match with seven goals from the same number of shots.
Next comes the spectacle against hosts Germany on Thursday, and then the crucial quarterfinal match with Serbia on Saturday.
"Against Germany it will be an interesting match and a difficult one at the same time, you know how it is when you play against the hosts. However, we also know what we need to do," emphasized Dijana.
Itana Grbić scored four times for Iceland.
"The two points are pleasing, but especially the approach and general play throughout the game - we are overjoyed and we needed this to get back on track, because perhaps we were missing the energy and team spirit that has always characterized us. We were aware of that and I can say this was an important match to get back on track," says our center back.
Serbia's victory over Spain eased the Lionesses' path to the knockout stage.
"We received that information before the game, but we stayed focused, because we knew that in the end, no matter what, it all depends on us," Itana is clear.
He says about the match with the host in front of a packed "Westfalenhae".
"We are looking forward to that match, the arena is already sold out and I believe it will be interesting."
Nina Bulatović arrived at the World Cup with injury problems, but she is slowly getting back into the rhythm for key matches.
"I'm proud of the girls for everything they gave, especially because the victory came after the match against Spain where we really weren't ourselves. We honored the agreement we had - to give our best and that attitude paid off," Nina pointed out.
