Marit Breivik for 15 years, then Thorir Hergeirson for another 15, and then Ole Gustav Gjekstad came along. And he continued his dominance - under his leadership, the Norwegian women's handball team reached the crown, now the world title.
Heni Rajstad, Katrin Lunde, Nora Merk and her teammates added a world title to their European and Olympic gold after defeating Germany in the World Cup final (23:20).
The legendary Hergeirson was also watching, this time from his home in Iceland. The man who gave Noveska 11 gold medals does not hide that he still experiences this country's victories with emotion.
"My heart is full after another gold. I'm here in Iceland and believe me, this triumph brought tears to my eyes," 62-year-old Hergeirson told "VG.no".
He praised the players he said goodbye to last December with European gold, but also his successor Gjekstad.
"I am proud of the entire team. Ole and his coaching staff have had a great championship from start to finish and deservedly celebrated. They all work together and continue what has been the strength and culture of this team for almost 40 years," Hergeirson emphasized.
Gjekstad was European champion with Larvik in 2011, and then won the Champions League three times with Vipers from 2021 to 2023 - now he has written his name in the history of the Norwegian national team.
"This team continues to win medals, the winning culture is still there, and I've put my little stamp on everything," was the modest coach of the world champions.
