The fireworks in Oslo ultimately did not mark Montenegro's celebration - our national handball team was defeated by Slovenia in a match with 81 goals.
In a game that will be remembered, the "Lions" had to congratulate Slovenia at the start of the European Championship (41:40).
"A great match with many goals, maybe a better defense or another goalkeeping intervention was missing, but in any case a good game," said Didije Dinar, the coach of Montenegro.
Next up are the Faroe Islands and Switzerland, the attack was excellent again, but it is clear that the defense needs to be better.
"Against the Faroe Islands we will have to play better defense, because that team plays a lot of seven-on-six. We are leaving immediately to prepare as well as possible and forget about this match," added the legendary Frenchman.
Miloš Vujović, along with his last name Branko (the former scored nine goals, the latter 11), was the most efficient player on our team.
"A defeat is very painful, especially when you fight for the whole 60 minutes and in the end you lose by one goal. And that was a goal we conceded from 13 meters over the three-point line," says the Montenegrin left winger.
He adds that the "Lions" gave their maximum.
"In the beginning it didn't go as planned - we were losing, coming back... But in the end to end like this, and we scored 40 goals, is really painful. I hope we can forget this defeat as soon as possible and turn our attention to the next matches," added Vujović.
Stefan Čavor played an excellent match, scoring five goals and tormenting the Slovenians with his "bombs".
"We conceded too many goals, I think we lacked defense in the first half and at the beginning of the second. Later on, we were better, more compact, there were some refereeing decisions that I wouldn't agree with, but we're moving on... It's a shame, I think we were better, but there are two more games left and we'll try to win them," says the left-handed ace from Veclar.
Haris Suljević made his debut in major competitions, made five saves, and took down some of the goal scorers, but when his team conceded 41 goals, he could hardly be satisfied with his performance.
"Neither we nor the Slovenian goalkeepers have become famous," said Suljević and added:
"We played a match with 81 goals, which is too much for handball. Our defense was lacking, as well as defensive solidity, while everything went well in attack."
Still, he is proud of the team.
"We fought heroically, gave our best, but it didn't work out this time. And even when we did, there were some strange referee decisions. However, we have no right to complain about them. We promise to be better in the next games," Suljević concluded.
