The defeat to Slovenia (41:40) was painful, the Montenegrin handball team deserved more at the opening of the European Championship, they were excellent in attack, but in the end one goal was decisive.
The "Lions" have had a tough night, but the match against Slovenia must be quickly forgotten, because tomorrow (18) they will face the Faroe Islands. Last night, the Faroese drew with Switzerland in the first round (28:28), and they got a point in the last seconds. It will be a duel, which the "Lions" defender, Vuko Borozan, points out is the final for our team.
"A defeat that hurts, of course it was hard to sleep. But we move on. We played a manly game, in the end we lost by one goal. I think we were excellent offensively. It's not easy to score 40 goals at the European Championship, but they scored one more. We're trying to forget that game, to turn towards tomorrow's match and the Faroe Islands. That's the final for us," Borozan pointed out.
THE FARANIS ARE FASTER THAN THE SLOVENIANS
We saw explosive handball against Slovenia, and it is expected to be even faster against France.
"Both teams, the Faroe Islands and Switzerland, are difficult opponents. They play in two different ways. The Faroes are even faster than the Slovenians. They play a seven-on-six system. If we manage that properly, we have a great chance of winning the game," said Borozan.
After the painful defeat against Slovenia, the "Lions" also need to prepare psychologically for the next match.
"The most important thing is psychological preparation. If we prepare ourselves psychologically properly, we can beat anyone. It's that fight, against ourselves, to understand that the match with Slovenia is in the past and our final is tomorrow," Borozan said clearly.
IF WE WANT TO WIN, THEN WE HAVE TO BE AT THE TOP LEVEL
A win is necessary to keep their chances of making it to the main round.
"I expect a tough match, five or six thousand fans from the Faroe Islands came and I'm looking forward to that atmosphere. It's much nicer to play in front of a full stadium, it motivates you to give your best. A tough match, they play seven on six, we'll prepare for them. I think we have a chance to win and stay in the race to advance to the second group," said pivot Miodrag Ćorsović.
Ćorsović points out that the defense must be better than against Slovenia.
"Against Slovenia, it was a run without defenses. We need to play better defense in the set zone, to come back better and to do a lot of things. We need to execute the shots better. If we want to win a game at the European Championship, where all the teams are quality, then we need to be at the top level."
Even before the championship, it was clear that Group D would be very uncertain.
"We lost to Slovenia, the Faroe Islands and Switzerland drew. Everything is still open. We have to forget the game against Slovenia and move on. We know what we need to do in the remaining two matches. We couldn't sleep well, but what is - is there. There is regret for the defeat, it is always painful when you lose by one point. You were close the whole game. We could have won. In the announcement of the championship, I said that this group would be difficult, that the teams are of similar quality and that anyone can beat anyone, which is what happened," concluded Ćorsović.
