Reaching the second stage of this European Championship remains a dream, as the Montenegrin national handball team was defeated and outplayed by the Faroe Islands in the second round tonight - 37:24.
They taught the "Lions" a lesson to Farani. After the first half, it was clear that Didier Dinar's team would not be able to win, but in the following minutes Farani only increased their lead and achieved their first ever victory at the European Championships.
Montenegro was in the game until the score was 6:5 for Farani, and then the rivals started a series. Av Tejgum was fired from the wing position, after his fifth goal in the 13th minute it was 10:6, and after the goal of Oli Mitun, who played without a mistake tonight, Farani had plus six for the first time - 13:7.
Then the "Lions" reduced the lead to 15:10, but did not use two attacks to reduce the deficit to four goals, so Farani went to 17:10, and then with a goal from a counterattack by Mortensen in the 29th minute, they reached a big eight-point difference - 19:11.
The "Lions" had many missed shots, the attack was not up to par, there were many mistakes, so it was clear that a miracle was needed in the second half.
But, the miracle did not happen, and in the following minutes, Faran's advantage grew to a huge 13 points. A heavy defeat for Montenegro, an absolute debacle, Faran completely outplayed the "lions" tonight.
Radojica Čepić, Miodrag Ćorsović, Vuko Borozan and Luka Radović scored three goals each. Branko Vujović finished the game without scoring a goal from eight attempts.
The French were led by Oli Mithun (10 goals from 10 shots), Hakun av Teygun, (9) and Elias Shipagotu with eight goals.
