Mirko Radović was an example of a great captain, a man who always put his teammates, the national team, and Montenegro first - now his armband will be taken over by a guy who has already shown that he deserves it.
Branko Vujović, the best handball player in Montenegro, is the new captain of our national team, the Handball Federation announced.
The right-back of the "Lions" was the leader of Montenegro in the last few major competitions, and he became captain at the age of 27.
"This is a responsibility that I want to live up to to the fullest. I grew up dreaming of one day leading our national team and now that I have been given the trust, I will give every ounce of my strength to be worthy of the role I have taken on," said Vujović.
The new captain faces a difficult period, as Montenegro, after the disaster at the European Championship in Oslo, will have to fight for the World Cup starting in March and in the second round of qualifications.
"Captain means more than leading the team on the field. It is a connection with every teammate, our fans and every person who breathes for Montenegrin handball. I want us to create an atmosphere together in which players feel supported and motivated to give their maximum in every duel, regardless of the opponent," added Branko.
He also had a message for the former captain, who said goodbye to his favorite jersey after 15 years.
"Mirko Radović set a huge standard and his words of support and advice mean a lot to me. I will be committed to continuing the path he started - with heart, respect and without compromise," concluded Vujović.
