The Danish handball team defeated the French team 32:29 (11:12) tonight in Herning, in the first round match of Group 1 in the second phase of the European Championship.
Denmark was led to victory by Matthias Gidsel with nine goals, while Simon Pitlik scored one less goal.
In the French selection, Emery Minne was the best player with seven goals, and Hugo Deska scored five goals.
This was a rematch of the final from the last European Championship in 2024, in which France won after extra time (33:31).
Earlier today in Group 1, Germany defeated Portugal 32:30 (11:11), while Norway defeated Spain 35:34 (16:16).
In Group 1, Germany leads with four points, Denmark, France, Portugal and Norway have two points each, and Spain is last with no points.
In the next round on Saturday, France and Portugal will play at 3:30 PM, Denmark and Spain will play at 6:00 PM, while Germany and Norway will play at 8:30 PM.
Tomorrow, the matches in Group 2, which will be played in Malmo, Sweden, are scheduled. At 3:30 PM, Croatia plays Iceland, at 6:00 PM, Switzerland plays Hungary, and at 8:30 PM, Slovenia and Sweden meet.
The two best-placed teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
