The French handball team said goodbye to the European Championship title after losing to Germany 38:34 tonight in the last match of the main round.
Croatia also advanced to the semifinals from first place, defeating Hungary 27:25, while Sweden was eliminated from the group without a semifinal.
The Germans outplayed the "tricolors" in an outstanding match in a direct confrontation for a place in the semifinals. France also lost out on a direct place in the World Cup.
Knorr led Germany with 10 goals, while Dika Mem scored the most goals for the opposing team.
On the other hand, Croatia was down two goals at halftime (15:13) against Hungary, and down four goals in the second half (19:15). Then Croatia turned things around, went on a 7:1 run, took a 22:20 lead and won.
The most efficient players in the winning team were Luka Lovre Klarica, David Mandić, Mario Šoštarić and Tin Lučin with four goals each. The Hungarians were led by Bence Imre (7) and Zoran Ilić (5).
