A win over Gloria away, a draw with the powerful Esbjerg at "Morača" and 12 losses - this is the performance with which the two-time European champion ended its participation in the Champions League this season.
Buducnost's women's handball team, on their farewell to the EHF elite, were defeated by Debrecen in Hungary - 32:30.
In a match that had no significance in terms of the result, since it was clear from the last round that the Podgorica club would be last in the group, Zoran Abramović's team played one of the better games.
Buducnost took a 1:0 lead, but Debrecen quickly went 7:2. It seemed that the home team had already built a key advantage, but the "blue and white" did not give up.
On the wings of Jelena Radivojević (she shot 7-6 in the first half), they slowly melted away the advantage of their rivals, playing very well in those moments, and in the 27th minute they even had a nice plus two (15:13).
Abramović's team went into the break with a score of 16:16, and they didn't give up even when the Hungarian team had another three-goal lead. Itana Grbić was leading the team, and Budućnost was persistently trying to catch up with their rivals.
She managed to do it two minutes before the end of the match when Jelena Radivojević scored for 30:30.
The Podgorica team could have even managed to score a point in the final minutes, but at 31:30 they got bogged down in the attack, after which Jovana Jovović set the final score.
For the fourth time in the last five years, and the third in a row, Buducnost finished the Champions League competition after the group stage.
Everything should be better next season, Montenegrin captain Đurđina Jauković is back, contracts with leading players have been extended, and there may be more reinforcements.
