It's been seen before - Vuko Borozan will skip Montenegro's matches, but at the same time play for his club. It happened last year in March and April before the matches against Hungary, Finland and Slovakia, and it happened again now.
The left back of our national handball team, unlike last year, was not even on the reserve list for the match against Finland in the 2nd round of World Cup qualifiers, but he played for Ohrid in the North Macedonian championship over the weekend. With three goals, he was one of the best on his team.
The situation with Borozon was explained by Vasko Ševaljević, the director of the national team, before today's gathering of the "lions".
"It was planned that he would respond to this action. I'm speaking openly, after the European Championship I spoke with him and he has the will and desire to play for the national team, however, Borozan has such a body that he is prone to injuries and when it comes to that, you never know what could happen. I'm absolutely not justifying him, I'm just telling it like it is," Ševaljević began.
He emphasized that it would be different if Borozan was completely healthy.
"I would most like him to be a full-strength part of this national team, because he is a player who can make a difference, but only when he is healthy and can respond to what can be expected of him."
The director of the national team also revealed how the conversation with Borozan went before Montenegro's new actions.
"Before the gathering, there was an agreement that he would respond and be there, but last week Vuko called me and said that he had a new injury to his posterior compartment. Analyses were done and in the end it turned out that it was not that serious, so he hinted to me that he might play regardless of the fact that he would have to take a two-week break. I am conveying what I know and that is all I can say," Ševaljević pointed out.
For all of this, coach Didije Dinar is counting on those who are ready and willing to defend the colors of Montenegro.
"What is realistic is that Vuko is not here and that we cannot count on him. We need guys who are healthy, who want to play for the national team and give their best on the field. He probably wasn't ready for that in this case and at the moment and that is one of the reasons why he is not here," emphasized Ševaljević.
What is the situation with the other players who will skip this gathering?
"Stevan Vujović finished the EHF Euro injured, his ankle and knee were damaged. He is fine now, but I am not sure what he decided and whether and how he will continue his career. He has been with us for years and we owe him great gratitude, whatever he decides. Stevan was therefore asked what to do next, Mirko Radović said goodbye, while Miloš Božović had a specific situation because he had been suffering from a foot injury during the preparations for the Euro. In the end, it turned out to be more serious than thought and he has not recovered yet. Borozan? We will see what and how, I know as much as you what will happen to him," concluded Ševaljević.
