A chance for first place before the 20th major competition, but also for some new "lionesses"

A place near Porto, with the unusual name of Senhora da Ora, will be the penultimate stop for Montenegrin handball players on their way to the European Championship, which will be organized by five countries in December.

The "Lionesses" already have a ticket for the EHF Euro in the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey in their pockets, and against Portugal tonight (18pm) and the Faroe Islands on Sunday (20pm) in Podgorica, they want their first confirmation of their place in the 20th major competition since the restoration of independence.

Suzana Lazović's team wants first place in the group due to the later draw, and the match in Portugal will be an opportunity for some new hopes of our handball - one of them is debutant Anđelina Orbović.

"My teammates have already done a great job, but the remaining two games remain for us to approach them with the utmost seriousness, and for it to be an opportunity for us younger players to perhaps take their first steps in the national team," said Anđelina.

Along with the girl who was the captain of the cadet selection, there are other hopes of Montenegrin handball: Martina Knežević, Anđela Guberinić and Natalija Lekić...

"I believe that the youth at this and every future gathering will contribute to making up for any shortcomings we may have had," said coach Lazović.

Anđelina beautifully described how much a call-up to the national team means.

"It is a great honor for me to train with the A national team, which is why I, like many girls, started playing handball. I believe that this is a reward for all the effort and work in the previous years," added the handball player who arrived in Tivat from Trebjesa this season.

And now she will play alongside the handball player who was her idol.

"Đurđina Jauković is a role model. I can't believe that I'm training with her now and that I might even play," concluded Anđelina.

EHF Euro 2026, the ninth in which Montenegro will appear, will be played from December 3 to 20.
